Types of Clay Treatment

I offer a wide variety of body clays, all of which can give you great results. All of these clays possess different characteristics that set them apart from each other, but they all work equally well. The clays that I offer are the very clays that our ancient ancestors used for both therapy and beauty. Cleopatra in ancient Egypt used these clays for her beauty treatments and as poultices to treat skin infections and diseases.

The Importance of Body Clay

Spa professionals and ladies at home use these clays in their body wrap formulas. The clays help detoxify, cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize your skin - key factors in a successful body wrap. Their soothing effect on your skin gives a rejuvenated feeling after treatment.

Mahogany Wellness offers five clays for Body Wraps and Facial Treatments:

1. BENTONITE CLAY

Many ladies prefer this type of clay because of its exceptional drawing properties compared to other types of mineral clays. The Bentonite clay, when mixed with water, can swell up to six times its original size, acting like a sponge to absorb the toxins along its path. Also known as Montmorillonite, it is an odorless, non-staining clay that in its powder form has a very fine, velvety texture. A gray or cream, not pure white, color ensures that the clay is of good quality.

Cosmetic and skin care companies often use Bentonite in their mask formulas and beauty products because of its nourishing and toning properties. It has a high concentration of minerals, including silica, magnesium, sodium, iron, and potassium. Benefits from using Bentonite include:

  • • Absorbing and removing toxins, impurities, chemicals and heavy metals which may be trapped in the skin

  • • Improving a wide variation of skin allergy issues and promoting speedy healing

  • • Rejuvenating your skin by extracting excess hydrogen and introducing oxygen to the cells

  • • Boosting circulation by tightening the skin and stimulating the blood

  • • Drawing out excessive oil and dead skin cells that clog your pores

2. GREEN CLAY

This is the most commonly used mineral clay in the vast world of skin health. Cosmetic companies use green clay for facial masks and body wraps due to its excellent toning and beautifying powers. It contains a plethora of trace mineral elements including: montmorillonite, magnesium, calcium, potassium, dolomite, silica, manganese, phosphorus, silicon, copper and selenium.  Decomposed plant particles are responsible for its characteristic green color. Benefits of using green clay include:

  • • Toning and moisturizing the skin as well as tightening pores thus reducing the appearance of wrinkles

  • • Absorbing, extracting and cleansing the skin

  • • Reducing cellulite and excess water trapped in the arms, thighs and stomachs

3. RED CLAY

Another excellent clay widely used by cosmetic companies for facial or body mud is Red Clay. It is very safe and gentle, perfect for sensitive, dry or mature skin types. Red Clay should be used in its pure form or blended into masks and creams since it has a slight odor. It contains aluminum silicate, magnesium, iron, potassium and copper that make it an effective treatment for some cardiovascular diseases, varicose veins, as well as nerve and endocrine disorders. Other benefits of using this clay are:

  • • Accelerating the skin’s regeneration process

  • • Saturating the skin with minerals and nourishing it

  • • Tightening large skin pores and visibly reducing congestive pigmentation or acne scars

  • • Regulating and balancing oil secretions which helps prevents acne breakouts

  • • Stimulating the metabolic cell processes to improve blood circulation

  • • Relieving tension by toning sore and tired muscles

  • • Helping with broken capillaries

  • • Diminishing those bags under your eyes

  • • Drawing out toxins

  • • Cleansing the skin well which makes it a good choice for acne-prone skin or other painful inflammations

  • • Enhancing skin texture and appearance because of its high iron oxide content

 4. Black Clay (Sea Clay Dead)

This clay is similar to Green Clay with the same high mineral content and equal absorption properties. Sea Clay Dead Clay makes a great facial mask for a rejuvenated, radiant and glowing skin. This type of clay is harvested from mud deposits on the ocean floor which contains ocean minerals found in weathered fossil, seaweed, and coral collected over thousands of years. It can be used on all skin types. The following are just some of its great soothing and beautifying benefits to your skin:
